The Brother PE800 and PE900 both list a 5 x 7 inch maximum embroidery area on Brother’s U.S. product pages, which is the size people mean when they ask what hoop a PE800 or PE900 takes. The numbers below come from the machine database behind our hoop-fit calculator . Every row links to the page it came from, and we checked each one again against that page on November 8, 2026.

Brother PE900 5" x 7" about 127 x 177.8 (inches x 25.4; maker gives no mm) Embroidery frame set (large) Brother USA product page

Brother prints this field in inches only, so the millimeter column is inches times 25.4. That is a nominal rectangle of about 127 x 178 mm. Brother’s own manuals may state a slightly different metric field, so use the manual’s number for a design that is close to the limit.

For the PE800, Brother’s carton list names a 5 x 7 inch embroidery hoop. For the PE900, the carton list says only “Embroidery frame set (large)” without a size, so this page does not assign one. The PE800 is shown on Brother’s site as discontinued, and Brother points shoppers to the PE900 as the current embroidery-only model.

Brother’s accessory pages hold the machine lists for its hoops. The one for the 5 x 7 inch SA444 hoop names the PE700, PE770 and PE780D but not the PE800 or PE900. That looks like an old list rather than a warning, since the PE800 ships with a 5 x 7 hoop, but it is a reason to confirm the part number with Brother or a dealer before you order one.

The one hoop whose page does name both machines is the SAMF180N magnetic frame. Its title calls it a 4 x 7 inch magnetic frame, and its listing says it is compatible with the PE800, PE900, SE1900, SE2000, NS1250E and NS2850D. This is Brother’s own claim. The same page also says “5 x 7 embroidery field”, so treat the exact usable size as something to confirm. Our magnetic hoop page shows how it compares with Brother’s other magnetic frames.

What fits in a 5 x 7 inch field

Taking the inch label literally, the field is 127 x 177.8 mm:

  • A 100 x 150 mm design fits upright, with about 27 mm of total width and 28 mm of total length to spare.
  • A 130 x 180 mm design, the metric “5 x 7” size many digitizers use, is slightly larger than the literal inch field. It may still stitch if Brother’s manual gives a larger metric field, so check the manual before you buy a hoop around that size.
  • A landscape design needs the 90 degree rotation option in the calculator, because the field is written 5 wide by 7 high.

You can type either machine into the picker in the calculator and test your own design size.
